Rev. Burr was born to the proud parents of James and Gladys Burr in the City of Detroit. He is the youngest of four siblings. Although he was raised in the city, Eric has strong roots to the small town of Temple Georgia, where his mother and wife is from.

Rev. Burr graduated from Mumford Senior High School and continued his education at Oakland Community College and Lawrence Institute of Technology.

In May of 1992 Rev. Burr answered the call to the ministry under the Pastor Gabriel Lewis Sr. at the Second New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he sat at the feet and learned valuable lessons from his Spiritual Father. Pastor Lewis saw Eric’s Shepherds Heart and felt a pressing need to prepare him to one day become pastor.

In 1996 Pastor Lewis sent Eric to assist Pastor Garrund Woolridge at the First Baptist Church of South West Detroit. Although his method and approach to ministry was untraditional, Pastor Woolridge saw the need that Eric’s open and often blunt style of ministry was necessary for urban soul winning and never tried to change him.
On August 29, 1999 Rev. Burr was ordained under the pastorate of Rev. Woolridge.
On June 6, 2004 Eric took the mantle from his Spiritual Father and Pastor, Gabriel Lewis as the new pastor of the Second New Hope Baptist Church in Royal Oak Township, where he strives to continue the great work started by his predecessors Oddis Lewis Sr. and Gabriel Lewis Sr.

In May of 2003 Eric received his certificate of Advanced Biblical Studies from the William Tyndale Institute.

In May of 2007 Rev. Burr received his certificate in Advanced Biblical Studies from Michigan Theological Seminary.

He served as Chaplain for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.

He has been married 23 years to Odetta and has one son, Eric Emmanuel and one
grand daughter, Kemory.
